A-wing

The A-wing is a light interceptor craft used by the Rebel Alliance and New Republic. Blindingly fast, the 9.6 meter fighter was originally developed from a civilian stunt fighter.

In combat, the A-wing serves in an anti-fighter dogfighting role. It is faster than any fighter in common use by the time of the Battle of Endor, being matched or exceeded for speed and agility by only a few newer craft - including the E-wing, TIE defender, and a few others. Offensively, the A-wing carries two laser cannons mounted on pivots for a greater field of fire, as well as a pair of miniaturized concussion-missile launchers. It also has a jamming system capable of distorting the readings of enemy fighters and blocking communications. However, the ship is very lighly armored, forcing pilots to rely almost entirely on the craft's speed and maneuverability for defense.

The Imperial flagship Executor was ultimately destroyed by a critically damaged Rebel A-wing colliding with its primary bridge.
