Alderson Drive

The Alderson Drive is an instantaneous interstellar drive. The Alderson Drive allows instant transport between two stars with a tramline. Tramlines are lines of equipotential force created by thermonuclear reactions. The drive allows a spaceship to use these tramlines to travel between two stars. However, the ship must be at a certain point in a solar system for a certian tramline, so in other words, these tramlines operate in a way essentially similar to the concept of 'jump points' in science fiction. Not every star has a line, and there can be several lines in a system.

The Alderson drive was developed at Caltech in early 21st century. It was named for Dan Alderson (a real person).
