All-Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT)

An enormous walking vehicle, the AT-AT is one of the best-known and most fearsome of the Empire's ground combat vehicles.

The AT-AT is about 22 meters (approximately 75 feet) tall, most of which is legs. The vehicles are essentially huge armored personnel carriers, transporting up to 40 troops plus support weapons, speeder bikes, and other equipment. Troopers and their gear are deployed by large platforms which are lowered to the ground with sturdy cables.

The head carries all of the walker's weaponry. Two 'cheek'-mounted medium blaster cannons are useful against lightly armored ground targets and even low-flying aircraft, while the much larger pair of 'chin'-mounted laser cannons are powerful enough to obliterate most other ground vehicles and unarmored buildings. Some calculations put the chin cannons, together, at 16 kilotons per shot when on the maximum firepower setting.

AT-ATs are nearly impervious to most anti-armor weapons and heavy artillery. Their one critical weakness was against Rebel speeders, which could use their tow cables to tie up the legs of the huge walkers and bring them crashing to the ground.
