Arclite Siege Tank

These bulky tanks are the main siege weapon of Terran forces in the Koprulu Sector. Equipped with twin 80 mm cannons for normal use, Siege Tanks are much more effective when deployed: their cannons retract to reveal an large artillery cannon capable of blasting apart enemies from extreme range.

In fact, Siege Tanks are more effective as mobile artillery than as armored vehicles. In-game, their 80-mm cannons do respectable damage but have a low rate of fire, and are simply not powerful enough to deal with serious enemy resistance. This is exacerbated by what is relatively low durability for a tank, with only somewhat more HP than Goliath support walkers (150 vs 125) and *less* HP than Zealots (160 w/shields) or Dragoons (180 w/shields). Armor bonuses and damage types do alter the picture somewhat, but the point is that armored spearheads are generally not an effective use of Siege Tanks.

As artillery, however, they excel, with the greatest range of any unit in the game (12), although this exceeds their own visual range and requires 'spotters' to achieve full effect. Few units in the game can stand up to more than a few hits from a sieged Arclite cannon.

Perhaps the greatest threat to a Siege Tank is the Spawn Broodling ability of Zerg Queens. Not only does this kill a target tank instantly, but tanks are prime targets due to their capabilities and expense.
