Captain Arnold 'Ace' Rimmer

Ace Rimmer is the alternate version of Arnold Rimmer. He is what the 'normal' Rimmer could have potentially been if not for one crucial decision that had happened in his life.

Ace Rimmer is a test pilot in the Space Corps and volunteered to test the latest ship which could perform dimension jumps. This meant he could see many different realities but he could never return. The mission was dangerous, full of potentially unknown risks, but he managed to slot it into his busy schedule.

Ace is very charismatic, with women finding him irresistible, and even some of the men.

Ace meets up with his 'true' counterpart and to put it mildly is not impressed. He departs Red Dwarf shortly afterwards. He returns a few years later and reveals that he is dying, despite being a solid light hologram. His light bee is deteriorating fast. He decides to teach Rimmer to be his successor. Of course Rimmer scoffs at this idea. Ace then reveals that there have been thousands of Ace Rimmers who have passed on their experiences to another. Rimmer takes up the mantle of Ace just as Ace's hard light drive sputters out.

What a guy!
