Asuran

The Asurans are a native machine species who live within the Pegasus galaxy.

HISTORY
The origins of the Asurans rests during the Ancients war with the Wraith in the Pegasus galaxy. Seeking a means to defeat their near numberless foe, the Ancients created a nano-virus; a tiny machine designed to destroy the Wraith from the inside. However, what they did not expect was the technology to evolve on its own and become sentient. The nanites would converge and take Human form in order to emulate their creators.

The Ancients would allow their creations to evolve but learnt that the aggressive nature programmed into the Asurans would make them a dangerous threat to all life. The Ancients decided to terminate the experiment and the subjects; by laying siege on the Asuran homeworld of Asuras with the intent of destroying all of the nanite based creatures.

The Ancients, however, did not factor in the fact that even small traces of nanites were capable of reviving the species which began to replicate. In time, they would form their own civilization which emulated their creators but remained uninvolved in the affairs of other species. This would change when the Atlantis Expedition arrived at Asuras from the Lost City of the Ancients. The Asurans decided to act against this foe as they possessed a great deal of hatred towards their creators and their 'favoured children'.

The first attempt to destroy Atlantis failed when the Humans of Earth froze the Asurans through their base programming. A benefit came from this as it allowed the Asurans to finally alter aspects of the base code, something they could not do previously. They would next assault Atlantis and find a group of Ancients in control. Free from the programming that prevented them in harming their masters, the Asurans took the city. This would also fail when the Humans of Earth got involved and used an anti-replicator weapon to disperse the nanites. The next attempt of the Asurans was to produce a large fleet of warships to attack both Atlantis and Earth in the Milky Way galaxy. Their construction would end when the Earth warship Apollo launched a first strike using powerful weapons that devastated the ships. In retailiation, the Asurans launched a satellite weapon to destroy Atlantis but the city managed to flee.
