B-wing
The B-wing is an assault fighter, a craft somewhere between a normal fighter and a bomber. Rather than engaging fighters like a space-superiority craft or attacking ground targets like a true bomber, the B-wing is used primarily in an anti-capital ship role.
B-wings have respectable speed and fairly heavy armor, though they are not terribly agile. There are two common weapon loadouts for the B-wing's modular weapon systems: one with ion cannons on all three wings, a laser cannon and proton torpedo launcher at the end of the main wing, another launcher at the midsection, and two to four autoblasters in the nose; the other configuration removes the autoblasters, moves the ion cannons to the nose, and mounts a single laser cannon at the tip of each wing.
In combat, the B-wing's real offensive punch comes from the combination of ion cannons and proton torpedoes. The ion cannons are first used to weaken the target's shields, and the torpedoes are then used to deal heavy damage that the lasers are not capable of inflicting. The lasers are reserved for lighter targets, such as smaller enemy ships or exposed weapon mounts. The B-wing's ion cannons are also used to disable enemy cargo ships and other vessels for capture.
Another variant, the B-wing/E (Expanded), features a two-man cockpit, adding a dedicated gunner to improve kill ratios. While the B-wing/E has heavier firepower and greater speed than the normal B-wing, it also has poorer maneuverability.
