Premise

Babylon 5 tells the story of a human station in neutral territory that acts as a meeting place between races. Before long, its inhabitants find themselves at the center of a dangerous interplanetary struggle between some of the oldest races in the galaxy.

The B5 universe is filled with a diverse assortment of predominantly humanoid alien species. These species are divided into three groups: the First Ones, highly advanced civilizations millions of years old; the Middleborn, groups of intermediate age; and the Younger Races, which includes humans as well as most of the show's other major species. The bulk of the saga revolves around the Younger Races and their dealings with two of the First One races, the Vorlons and the Shadows.

History

B5, as it is known to many fans, was highly successful as a cult show. While it had a fairly low budget, it diehard fans attest to the fact that the quality of its writing was higher than one might expect at first glance. The show is known especially for its long-term plot arcs.
