Babylon 5: The Gathering

The pilot movie for Babylon 5, stylisically different from the series. An assassination attempt is made on the life of the Vorlon ambassador.

The Gathering has an interesting history. Filmed a year before production even started on the TV series, there are many cast differences. Patricia Tallman's character Lyta Alexander is not present in Season 1. Similarly, Lieutenant Commander Laurel Takeshima and Doctor Benjamin Kyle disappear completely, although the latter is mentioned from time to time in the series. The music is uncharacteristic of the series, although quite interesting for a science fiction series.

In 1998 The Gathering was re-edited, given a new, more fitting musical score, and some new special effects, as part of TNT's relaunch of the series. It was aired before the all-new In The Beginning TV movie, which led into a re-run of the series to accompany Season 5.

The new version is the version currently available on DVD, and includes previously unseen scenes. Other scenes have been removed to tighten up the story.
