Barracuda

The Barracuda is a small, one-man submarine of British Hydrospace design, that served X-Com through the Second Alien War (during the 2040's). It utilizes brand new technologies that allow it to jump out of the water and go airborne, achieving a velocity of up to 2400 knots. Of course, its weapons can operate only while it's underwater.

The Barracuda had 2 weapon pods that could accomodate the newest weapons in X-Com's arsenal, including later, alien-technology based designs. It was powered by super-heated laser engines and, needless to say, was one of the fastest intercept craft in the world.

Although not capable of going toe to toe with larger alien USO's (Unidentified Submersible Objects), also partially because it couldn't tolerate as much pressure as the alien craft could (thus limiting the depth to which it could dive), it nevertheless served X-Com well at the early stages of the conflict, downing several small USO's which made research into alien technology possible.

It can also carry one passanger besides the pilot, although it was not designed to do so.
