Battletech

The Battletech universe is set primarily in the 31st Century, 300 years after the fall of the Star League - a star-spanning governmental power which kept civilization together. Since the fall of the League, various successor states have fought each other to claim the title of First Lord of the Star League. Much of the high technology once available to the League was been lost, such as the ability to construct faster-than-light Jumpships. This, however, changed with the discovery of a Star League memory core.

Battletech was originally a game, first titled 'Battledroids' until a court action by George Lucas forced the name to be changed to Battletech. The board game has gone through four distinct editions. There have also been spin-off games covering large unit tactics (BattleForce) and space combat (Battlespace/Aerotech). There has also been an RPG (Mechwarrior) and a new figures-based game (Mechwarrior: Dark Age). Other spin-offs include a card game, an animated series, and a huge number of novels, some of which are now quite rare.
