Belt Alliance Zephyr 109 Light Fighter

The Zephyr 109 is a light fighter that was originally constructed by the Belt Alliance, a loose organisation of miners and prospecters that needed ships that were legal and could be used for self defence against raiders and pirates. So was born the Zephyr, a ship that the Belters could construct themselves easily, and one that could be easily maintained and inexpensive.

Now that the Earth Alliance seems to be more active in patrolling the asteroid belt as well as other areas that the Belt Alliance are in, the Zephyr rapidly fell out of use among it's original clientele.

Ironically enough, considering it's original purpose, the Zephyr has largely become a symbol of Raider forces, most likely for the same reason the Belters used it. Hopelessly outclassed by EA Starfuries, the Zephyr has an armament of twin 42mm Bolt Cannons as well as provision for up to six missiles. Unlike the Aurora Starfury, the Zephyr can fly in atmosphere, another reason it is popular with Raiders, but that same advantage makes it's fuel laden wings a vulnerable target.
