Bethan Defence Forces

The defence forces of the planet Betha appear to have been at war with the people of the planet Delta for many centuries. According to Dione, 'We have always been at war', this statement seems to signify that the original causes for the war between the two planets have been forgotten and it is in fact more of a force of habit now.

The Bethan forces rely on a twin pronged force. For offensive purposes, they have giant gunships. To fire their powerful missiles, these gunships need to be moored to another object. Medium sized asteroids which are geologically stable are ideal for this, but the incidence of them appearing is so little it is unknown if the Bethans keep a large force of gunships. Though again Dione stating that Betha 'could send another gunship' was rather casual hinting that there are at least more than one kept semi-active at a time. The gunships fire powerful rockets, seemingly chemically fuelled or perhaps fusion powered. The onscreen evidence doesn't give much hint of their power, but it is either a high yield conventional warhead, or a low to medium yield tactical nuclear warhead. Impact patterns also seem to indicate that each missile is a single large warhead rather than a MIRV like multiple warhead design.

The defensive side of Bethan forces also lies in missiles. As soon as an enemy gunship fires, Bethan missiles fire in response. It is assummed that there is some degree of tracking ability but it does not appear to be too precise relying on a saturation bombardment of the approximate area that the enemy vessel is in. This has possibly been all that was needed before. It seems that asteroids are the most common mooring points for gunships and it is likely that such a strike would shatter smaller suitable asteroids, thereby nullifying the threat.
