Blackstar

The Blackstar was the pride of the Minbari fleet during the Earth-Minbari war and was regarded as extremely dangerous by Earthforce, even more so than a typical Sharlin. The Blackstar operated on her own, away from the main Minbari armada and performed hit and run raids on Earthforce convoys, bases and outposts.

An Earthforce squadron under the command of Captain Sterns of the EAS Lexington was ambushed by the Blackstar, known as the Drala Fi in the Minbari language. The Minbari's ability to open jump points precisely where they wanted enabled them to emerge practically into the middle of the Earthforce squadron, destroying at least one vessel instantly from the energies released there, and being able to quickly destroy others.

The EAS Lexington was crippled but not destroyed, her captain dead. The Lexington's XO, Lieutentnant Commander John Sheridan took over and decided to lay a trap for the Blackstar. Seeding nearby asteroids with nuclear charges he then sent a distress call. This attracted the attention of the Blackstar who was intent on leaving no survivors.

With his main engines disabled, Sheridan used docking thrusters to bring the Blackstar within range of the nuclear charges. The first detonation disabled the Minbari ships propulsion, while the second shredded the hull.

Many in the Minbari Warrior caste swore revenge on Sheridan, considering his tactic dishonourable.
