Blake's 7

Set in the future, Earth is the centre of a large galactic Federation. The Federation has however become corrupt and controls it's citizens with a mixed of drugs and police state measures. Roj Blake is a freedom fighter who opposes the regime, but before the series begins he is captured, brainwashed and forced to betray his comrades. The show starts when he is contacted once more by the resistance. He goes to a meeting, but is captured once more and framed and convicted on false charges by the Federation. He is put onto a prison ship and sent to a distant prison world (Cygnus Alpha).

On route, the prison ship encounters a vast and powerful alien spacecraft adrift in space. Blake manages to escape and take over the alien ship. They rename it the Liberator and use it to attack the Federation.

The crew number 7; Blake, Avon, Villa, Gan, Jenna, Cally and Zen (the Liberator's main computer).

The crew change a number of times over the four series, with only Avon and Villa surviving to the end. Some crew die, others simply leave or disappear.

The show was originally broadcast in 1978, and has regularly topped the polls of favourite British Sci-Fi since then. J Michael Straczynski has also cited it as an inspiration.
