Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

In the year 1987, NASA launches the last of it's deep space probes. Ranger 3, with it's sole crewman, Captain William 'Buck' Rogers suffers a catastrophic failure of it's life support systems causing Buck to be frozen and revived in the year 2491.

Buck must adjust to an earth that has changed drastically since his mission set off. The Earth has been devastated by a nuclear war some centuries back.

Buck Rogers was more light hearted than Larson's Battlestar Galactica. There were rumours that both series would end up meeting, but that has never been confirmed.

The first season of Buck Rogers had Buck based on Earth carrying out missions on an almost freelance basis for Dr Huer. Despite there being some popularity the ratings were mediocre. Some decried the series as being a bit too camp but it was never intended to be taken entirely seriously. However, there were quite a few notable storylines.

Despite the ratings, Buck Rogers was renewed for a second, and what would turn out to be a shorter, season. From here the story shifted to the Earth starship Searcher, that was looking for the lost remnants of humanity. This is perhaps where the rumour about Buck Rogers and Galactica meeting came from. The character of Dr Huer was removed, as was Dr Theopolis. A new character, Hawk was introduced as Buck's sidekick, and to the dismay of many fans the popular character of Wilma Deering had her role reduced. Amid rumours that Gil Gerard didn't want Erin Gray to have prominent billing in the series, this might have been a cause for the reduction in her role. Unfortunately as well, the way she was dressed made her look like a miniskirted future flight attendant. While this maybe did show her figure off, it didn't exactly do the role of the character any favours. The second series saw plummeting ratings and was cancelled. Again, there were some good episodes, but quite a few that were not up to standard.
