Cat

Cat, as he is simply known is the last known survivor of a colony of evolved cats that came into being on board the JMC Red Dwarf.

David Lister smuggled a normal house cat by the name Frankenstein on the vessel and got himself photographed with it. This broke ships quarantine regulations and was done so that Lister could spend the rest of the trip in Cryo Freeze and end up back on Earth. The radiation accident which swamped the Red Dwarf however spared Frankenstein who was safely sealed in the Red Dwarf's cargo bays behind radiation proof doors. Since she was already pregnant, over the years the cat race evolved.

Eventually achieving biped status, there was a civil war, the two factions leaving the ship and leaving behind two Cats, the cripple and the idiot.

Cat was the son of this pair. He was found in the cargo bay by Red Dwarf and took his place in among the crew. He is immensely vain, with personal grooming and top of the fashion clothes being a priority.

He is self obsessed and narcissistic, which he regards as his good points. He has no real great regard for Lister, but does get on well with him, he holds Rimmer in absolute contempt.
