Doctor Clayton Forrester

Dr. Forrester was the mad scientist behind the Mystery Science Theater experiment. Since his youth, he dreamed of world domination. Originally working publically for Gizmonic Institute, he and his colleague at the time (Dr. Erhardt) were forced to go into hiding when their experimentation fell out of favor with the Institute. The Mads fled to Gizmonic's half-forgotten sub-basement, apparently still drawing funding but remaining below the radar, where they continued to perform their tests. The goal of the project was to discover the most mind-warpingly bad movie ever committed to film, and with the awful power of this movie they could rule the world.

Dr. Forrester's colleague in those early days, Dr. Erhardt, inexplicably went missing some time after the move to Gizmonic's basement (their lab being called Deep 13, as it was on the thirteenth level below ground). Forrester immediately picked up a new assistant, a former Arby's employee named Frank (later to be called TV's Frank). Frank was a loyal assistant, but he was constantly abused by Forrester and used as a test subject for numerous minor experiments and inventions. Eventually, Frank was assumed into 'Second Banana Heaven,' an afterlife reserved for former henchmen and lackeys. At this time, Dr. Forrester's mother, Pearl Forrester, moved in permanently to Deep 13.

Dr. Forrester was eventually converted into a 'star baby' (a la 2001: A Space Odyssey) while the Satellite of Love was at the edge of the universe. His mother Pearl jumped at a second chance to raise her son, but as it turned out Clayton's mind had survived the transformation intact. He resumed work on his schemes as soon as possible, but this disappointed his mother and he finally met his end when she smothered him. Pearl, however, vowed to continue the experiment in her son's name.
