Daleks

Daleks

Basic info

The Daleks are a race in the television series Dr. Who. They resemble pepper-pots, though this should not be taken to mean that they are robots, as a living being exists within that shell. Their ideology resembles Nazism, as they believe that they are the superior beings, and all others are only worthy of extermination - their battle cry, 'Exterminate!' is a logical conclusion of this.

They are led by an Emperor, which has been destroyed many times and often takes the form of a scaled-up Dalek. Daleks have a sucker arm, which can be used to interface with computers, and a gun arm, which fires shots that produce an effect similar to X-rays on a living victim.

Chronology

The Daleks were created by the Kaled scientist Davros, after a thousand-year war against the Thals. The Kaled race was mutating and was going to become extinct, but Davros took the most heavily mutated Kaleds (known as Mutos) in Dalek shells so they could survive. After this, the fourth incarnation of Doctor set back Dalek evolution, but the Dalek production still continued. After this, the Doctor's first incarnation encountered the Daleks in their city on Skaro - they were confined to it, and easily defeated by him.

Later, the Daleks invaded Earth, though again the Doctor defeated them. After a rut of further encounters, they attempted to conquer Earth with the Hand of Omega, an ancient Time Lord artifact, which the Doctor used to destroy Skaro. This was his last encounter with the Daleks until his eighth incarnation.

They later fought in the Last Great Time War, against the Time Lords, which ended in the mutual annihilation of both species at the Doctor's hands, save for a few survivors on either side.

The Doctor, now in his ninth incarnation, met one survivor in the Utah desert, which later comitted suicide. Another group of survivors, the Cult of Skaro, escaped from the Void (the space between dimensions) and attacked Earth, which was also under attack from the Cybermen. Both races were sucked back into the Void at the end of the battle, by the tenth incarnation of the Doctor and his companion Rose Tyler, who was trapped in a parallel world.

The Cult of Skaro time-travelled back to 1930s New York, and planned to use an army of Human-Daleks to take over the world. The Doctor, and his companion Martha Jones, again foiled their plan, and the last survivor of the Cult, Dalek Caan, time-travelled to an unknown timezone, escaping from the Doctor.
