Dominion

The ruling power in the Gamma Quadrant, the Dominion is ruled by the Founders (also known as Changelings), a shapeshifting race of liquid beings. They use the Jem'Hadar, a race especially cloned and raised for warfare, for their soldiers. The Vorta are also cloned, but instead are used for diplomacy, scientific research and command duties.

The Dominion was founded 10,000 years ago, by the Founders, after centuries being hunted down and hated by what they call, the Solids. The purpose of the Dominion was to protect the Founders of being endangered, and to bring order in the Gamma Quadrant. After 10,000 years, most of the Gamma Quadrant was under Dominion rule. The species under the Dominion are free to trade or travel to other worlds, but every attempt to liberation or resistance is quickly eradicated by the Jem'hadar.

After the First Contact with the Alpha Quadrant power known as the Federation, the Founders decided that they must establish order as well in the Alpha Quadrant, no matter the cost.

After years of infiltration and setting one power against another other, of wich the biggest example was the Klingon-Cardassian War, the Dominion moved into the Alpha Quadrant, after creating a alliance with the Cardassian Union. In the months following, the Dominion signed a non-aggresion pact with the Romulan Star Empire, and numerous other species, before finally beginning the offensive when the Federation mined the wormhole that led to the Gamma Quadrant.

The war that followed, would be forever remembered as the Dominion War.
