E-wing

The E-wing is a late-model superiority fighter fielded by the New Republic. Designed by the same team that designed the X-wing, the E-wing is an impressive craft.

A typical E-wing mounts three laser cannons and a single proton torpedo launcher with 16 torpedoes. The craft has the speed and agility of a TIE interceptor, and is much more durable than a standard X-wing. This combination of features makes it suitable for both space superiority and anti-ship missions, although it was originally intended to simply replace the A-wing as a convoy escort.

The E-wing had a troubled beginning despite its impressive traits. The craft proved too complex for standard R2 astromechs to handle, necessitating the development of the R7 series. The original run of E-wings also used a poor form of Tibanna gas in their laser cannons, reducing the range of these weapons. This has been amended by refitting the weapons to use a superior gas.
