Earth Directorate Starfighter

The Earth Defense Directorate's starfighter is a sleek craft which seems to be flexible and easy to fly. Originally the starfighters combat computer took care of high speed maneuvers in the heat of combat, but this system proved easy to predict because it didn't take into account human ingenuity and initiative. Captain William 'Buck' Rogers figured this out when facing a flight of Draconian Marauders and saw most of his squadron mates destroyed. By disengaging his computer and taking full manual control he helped defeat the raiders.

The ship itself is intended as a single seat fighter though there is a rear passenger compartment which can take one or even two passengers at a stretch. It's likely that this will put a significant strain on the life support systems and will not be very comfortable either. Nonetheless the compartment has proven useful when extracting informants and captured Directorate agents.

The vessels' armament seems to consist of two pulse laser cannon mounted on the forward booms. It's unknown if there is any provision for additional weapons but none have been demonstrated. There also exists a version of this craft with a wider forward cockpit which can seat two crew members side by side, this would seem to be a trainer version or perhaps a liason version. This would make sense, given that Earth seems to have a limit on its resources due to the global war centuries before, and using a common airframe would make sense.
