Captain Edward MacDougan

Captain Edward MacDougan was one of Captain Sheridan's instructors in the Earthforce academy. He later went on to command the EAS Vesta, an Omega-class destroyer, and was put under the command of Captain Trevor Hall in the blockading of Proxima III.

When Captain Sheridan arrived to liberate Proxima III, MacDougan initiated unauthorised contact with Sheridan, thereby infuriating Captain Hall. MacDougan stated that neither he nor his ship had opened fire on refugee vessels either from Proxima III or elsewhere and therefore were not yet part of the hostilities.

Sheridan tried to convince MacDougan of the illegitimacy of President Clarks regime and his unlawful orders. While considering what to do, Hall commanded that Commander Philby, MacDougan's XO, take command and bring the Vesta into the conflict. The Vesta did open fire but this engagement was short lived as the crew seized command from Philby and reinstituted MacDougan in command.

MacDougan sat out the action and later met with Captain Sheridan along with a few other of the Earthforce Captains. He agreed to join Sheridan against the Clark-loyalist forces.
