F/A-76A Longbow
The Longbow Bomber, manufactured by McCall industries was the standard
Confed Torpedo bomber in the last years of the Confed-
Kilrathi conflict. It replaced earlier bombers like the Broadsword, though it is assumed that with the sheer numbers of earlier designs deployed, total replacement had not yet happened.
Unlike the earlier Broadsword, the Longbow sacrificed some of it's defensive capabilities, losing the side mounted turrets. These don't really seem to have made a huge difference in combat, so it perhaps was not much of a loss.
Gun Armament was a miserly two
Neutron Guns and two Plasma Guns firing forward and two Particle Guns firing from the rear mounted turret. This turret was also fitted with a medium power tractor beam that could recover small to medium objects like Flight recorders and pilot escape pods.
The main armament of the Longbow was undoubtedly its disposable ordnance. Fitted with sixteen missiles hardpoints, it could unleash a lot of damage on fighters and medium sized craft like Corvettes, transporters and tankers. It's four
torpedo mounts were the main punch however, designed to carry guided anti-capital ship torpedos to take out enemy capital ships.
Unfortuantely, the Longbow is an extremely sluggish craft, necessitating a fighter escort.
