FarScape
Off beat TV Series, consisting of four seasons and a mini-series.
Farscape is a show has attracted a considerable cult following, and seems to be a show that you either love or hate. The premise at first hardly sounds original, the astronaut who is propelled away from all that is familiar to him seems at first more reminiscent of
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, but the whole atmosphere of the show is far more serious and gritty than that Glen A Larson vehicle.
While the early episodes may have a slightly less serious feel than the earlier ones, it's merely the show setting itself up.
The Jim Henson Creature Shop was enlisted to make up the large variety of alien creatures from Pilot, the organism who is responsible for piloting
Moya to the diminuitive Rygel.
Characterisation, in common with fan favourites
Babylon 5 and
Stargate is the main focus of the universe rather than technobabble or overwhelming special effects. This is not to say that the effects are bad, far from it, but the effects serve as a backdrop to the show, rather than the focus.
