Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon
Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, supreme commander of the Imperial Remnant fleet, began his career in the
Old Republic. As a young man, Pellaeon lied about his age to gain admittance into Raithal Academy, one of the most prestigious military learning centers in the galaxy. Graduating as an ensign, Pellaeon served with distinction, earning commendations for outwitting pirates over the planet Gavryn, shortly before the Clone Wars. A native of Corellia, he was one of a few officers to be retained as-is by the Empire. He was transferred to the
Star Destroyer Chimaera where he slowly made his way up the chain of command, to become second-in-command of the vessel.
At the Battle of Endor when a concentrated assault by Rebel forces killed the ship's captain, Pellaeon seized command of the vessel as the Imperial Fleet was routed. Throughout the battle, Imperial officers were committing tactical blunders, choosing to go out in a blaze of glory rather than call for a prudent retreat. It was Pellaeon who issued the final order to withdraw, commanding the remnants of the fleet to regroup at Annaj. Pellaeon commanded a fractured force without a real leader; the Emperor was dead and Pellaeon lacked the necessary rank to command such a force. The various vessels under his command gradually splintered into the warring fiefdoms of the post-
Imperial age, until he was contacted by the last remaining Grand Admiral -
Thrawn - who chose Pellaeon's own ship, the Chimaera, as his flagship, and led the Empire on its greatest counteroffensive. Pellaeon served loyally under this new leader, and learned a great deal of tactical knowledge from him. When Thrawn died, Pellaeon once again found himself commanding a splintering force, with Pellaeon himself serving under High Admiral Teradoc, until Admiral Daala entered the picture.
Once she had eliminated the Imperial warlords and united the remnants of the Empire, Daala began making foolish attacks on the
New Republic, when she should have remained in her own space building her strength. She attacked and was defeated. Pellaeon stepped in to fill the power vacuum, as Supreme Commander of all Imperial forces. Pellaeon came to the fateful conclusion that the Empire must formally surrender to the New Republic, and attempted to contact General Garm Bel Iblis, but was thwarted by renegade Imperial officers. He eventually uncovered the plot and brought them to justice. The Galactic Civil War finally ended.
After the treaty was signed, Pelleaon retained his position of a new sort of Empire; while still adhering to the New Order, the Empire lightened restrictions on species and political expression, but still maintained a fiercely militaristic stance - until the Invasion of the
Yuuzhan Vong. When the Vong invaded, Pellaeon sided with the New Republic and led a task force to the battles at Garqi and Ithor, where Ithor was obliterated. The Moff's Council called Pellaeon back to his own borders, where they remained, unimportant in the scheme of things, until the Vong attempted to wipe them out. With the help of a Jedi expedition, Pellaeon defeated the Yuuzhan Vong in Imperial space and issued his ultimatum: order the Empire into the war, or he would take all Imperial forces and fight alone. The Moffs conceded.
Ultimately, the Yuuzhan Vong were defeated, and the Imperial Remnant joined with the New Republic and others to form the Galactic Alliance.
