Holly

The Artifical Intelligence of the Jupiter Mining Corporation vessel Red Dwarf was formerly an AI with an IQ of 6000. Over the three million years that the vessel headed on an outbound course Holly became 'computer senile' from spending too much time alone.

Originally Holly was played by a man, Norman Lovett, later on stand up comedienne Hatty Hayridge took over the part. This was explained by having one episode with the two actors each playing the AI's of seperate vessels from a parallel universe, one of which where females were the dominant gender. Holly and Hilly got on famously, but the meeting was short lived and each vessel had to go their seperate ways.

Holly then became so infatuated he took on the form of his lost love.

Holly's forgetfulness has been the source of must consternation among the crew over the years. Ranging from false alerts of 'being ambushed by 8 black holes' (turned out to be grit on the scanner scope) to being rewired by the Talkie Toaster.
