Infested Terran

The Zerg assaulted the Terran worlds of the Koprulu Sector with the intent of assimilating enough human genetic material to gain hyper-evolutionary control over the latent psionic powers possessed by Koprulu Terrans. While they do not appear to have succeeded in this goal, they did 'infest' (infect with symbiotic Zerg cells) a significant number of humans during their rampage.

By capturing human colonies (in-game, by capturing Command Centers), the Zerg were able to infest large numbers of inhabitants. From this stock were produced a type of infested Terran that came to be feared and reviled by normal human soldiers - an infested Terran that had been turned into a living bomb. These creatures, while retaining their human intelligence, were fanatically loyal to the will of the Overmind. They were used in suicide attacks, rushing at defensive emplacements like bunkers or charging into masses of troops. There, a violent plasma reaction like that of the Zerg's Scourge would take place, producing a devastating explosion that could wipe out bunkers and ground troops alike with a single blast.

Like many other Zerg units, infested Terrans can burrow to avoid detection. This is useful, as they are not especially durable and can be easily gunned down by watchful, appropriately armed forces. They are perhaps most effective when Zerglings or other units are present to distract fire from them as they close in on their target(s).
