Inner Sphere

The Inner Sphere encompasses the area covered by several major Successor States as well as some smaller politicial entities.

The main States are:

Lyran Commonwealth
Ruled over by House Steiner. Later with the political marriage of First Prince Hanse Davion to Melissa Steiner, the Lyran Commonwealth and the Federated Suns united to become the Federated Commonwealth. The Lyrans typically favour Heavy and Assault class mechs, and their officer corps generally have the reputation of being chosen more for their social connections rather than their skill.

Federated Suns
The Federated Suns which later aligned with the Lyran Commonwealth was traditionally ruled over by House Davion. The Federated Suns pioneers the use of combined arms Regimental Combat Teams and the use of 'Command Circuits' of Jumpships. The Federated Suns also have several innovative science institutes including the New Avalon Institute of Science.

Free Worlds League
An almost balkanised area normally administered by House Marik, the Free Worlds league can be politically unstable.

The Draconis Combine
Modelled on feudal Japanese lines, the Draconis Combine is typically the sworn enemy of the Lyran Commonwealth and the Federated Suns. Ruled by House Kurita, the Draconis Combine are fierce fighters with a strong sense of personal honour.

Free Rasalhague Republic
A small territory that breaks away from the Draconis Combine largely populated by people of Nordic descent, the Republic enjoys a brief spell of independence interrupted by the Clan Invasion. Generally they are also distrustful of Mercenaries.

Cappellan Confederation
Modelled on Chinese lines, the Confederation is typically ruled by House Liao. Unfortunately, insanity seems to be a trait that occurs every so often. The Cappellans are sworn enemies of House Davion and relations with other states are typically cool at best. An alliance of sorts is formed with the Free Worlds League when Chancellor Sun Tzu Liao is engaged to Isis Marik, daughter of Thomas Marik, Captain General of the Free Worlds League.

St Ives Compact
A breakaway region of the Capellan Confederation, led by Candace Liao, daughter of Maximillian Liao. The Compact broke from the Confederation during the Fourth Succession Wars. It is later reclaimed by Sun Tzu Liao.

Comstar
Not a state as such, but with comparable power. Comstar is the quasi religious sect charged with overseeing interstellar communications using Hyperpulse Generator Stations (HPG's). The sect undergoes an internal restructuring at the end of the Fourth Succession War dropping a lot of the Religious trappings. Some object to this and break away.

Word of Blake
Comstar splinter group who objected to the reformation of Comstar.
