Ixians

The Ixians are the creators of the more complex machines of the Dune universe. They live and work on the ninth planet in their home system, the location of which is unknown. The actions of the Ixians frequently skirt close to and sometimes beyond the Great Convention. Due to this they are considered a necessary evil by those who have to deal with them. Just before the death of Leto II, the Ixians created the very first no-chamber, in which Hwi Noree was born. After the death of Leto II, the Ixians also created the mechanical Navigator, thereby removing the monopoly of inter-planetary travel held by the Spacing Guild. By the time of events of Chapterhouse: Dune, the Ixians have become stagnant, suppressing risky ideas for profit.
