Lady Jessica Atreides

Lady Jessica Atreides was the consort of Duke Leto Atreides and was the daughter of Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, although the full facts of her parentage were not known to her.

Jessica was raised by the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and was instructed to bear the Duke Leto Atreides daughters but no sons. The purpose of this was to pair off the daughter to Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, sealing the breach between the two houses. The product of such a union would be the Kwisatz Haderach, the ultimate result of the Sisterhoods breeding program.

The strong willed Jessica disobeyed the Sisterhood and gave birth to Paul Atreides. She was one of the few survivors of House Atreides after the sneak attack by House Harkonnen and the Emperors Sardauker on Arrakis. She became Reverend Mother of the Fremen tribe which adopted her and Paul. The Water of Life which she had to take to undertake the process resulted in the premature birth of her baby who she christened Alia.

After the Emperor's defeat, Jessica and Gurney Halleck took up residence on Caladan, ancestral home of House Atreides.
