Joel Robinson

Joel Robinson was an employee of Gizmonic Institute, a government laboratory facility. While performing admirably in his duty as a janitor, he fell out of favor with his bosses, who, being mad scientists, tricked him into getting on board a large satellite/space station just prior to its launch. Once he was trapped in space, Joel was forced to watch cheesy movies - the very worst the mad scientists could find - in an experiment intended to discover how many terrible movies a person can watch before going insane. As it turned out, Joel wound up using special parts (which would have allowed him to determine when these movies started or stopped) to make a series of quirky robotic companions to keep him company and help out with the maintenance of the satellite, dubbed the Satellite of Love.

Joel spent several years trapped on board the SoL, being forced to watch dozens of bad movies but never succumbing to any sort of psychosis. Eventually, during an incident in which one of the robots (Gypsy) mistakenly thought that the mad scientists were plotting to kill Joel, a temporary employee by the name of Mike was able to help by giving Gypsy control of the only escape pod on board the SoL. Joel was launched from the station and landed safely in the Australian outback; after a short stay in the Land Down Under, he toured with his brother's band for several years. His last known act was to repair the auto-destructing SoL, still in orbit and bearing both a new test subject and the robots Joel had created. After this, he departed for things unknown.
