Kadesh

The Kadesh are a very fanatic and somewhat paranoid race, living in the great Nebula that lies between Kharak and Hiigara. The Nebula is feared by all, as no craft that dared to travel through it ever returned.

The Kushan, on their long journey to Hiigara, had no choice but to travel through the Nebula. The alternative was to lose time by traveling around it and risk being discovered by hostile Taiidani forces. This was a risk they weren't willing to take.

As they entered the gloom of the Nebula, they had discovered the reason behind the ship disappearances - the Kadesh. The Kadesh gave them a choice; either to stay and live with them in the Nebula as brothers, or perish. No one is allowed to leave the nebula since, according to them, the trespassers might disclose their location to the 'great evil' outside the Nebula.

The great evil they refer to appears to be the Taiidan empire, the Kadesh knowledge of this ancient civilization having been twisted and demonized after countless generations of isolation. This is ironic, as the Taiidan empire itself dares not travel the mysterious depths of the Nebula.

The Kushan discovered that they and the Kadesh stem from common roots. Both they and the Kadesh are descendants of the Hiigarans, who were exiled away from the galactic core by the Taiidani thousands of years ago. As the Hiigarans fled in old and crude ships, many systems failed across the fleet of refugees, and many people had to be abandoned. One of those ships broke down when the convoy of the exiled Hiigarans was traveling through the Nebula. One of the other ships, later known as the Khar-Toba, ended up on a barren, desert planet by the name of Kharak. The Kushan descended from the Khar-Toba's passengers, while the Kadesh descended from the passengers of the ship stuck in the Nebula.
