Lieutenant Kara Thrace

Lt Kara Thrace, callsign Starbuck is one of the best Viper pilots on the Galactica, but her skill is offset by a rebellious streak that often brings her into conflict with her superiors, primarily Colonel Tigh.

Kara had a relationship with Lee Adama's brother, Zack, when she was his flight instructor on Caprica and passed him through basic flight training despite knowing that he didn't have the required ability. Zack later died in a flight accident, though Kara kept the facts about Zack failing flight school secret until recently. Partially because of this, she puts up an emotional barrier round herself which alternates between joking around and acting cold and hostile towards others.

Recently Kara captured a downed Cylon Raider and was astonished to discover that the ship was not piloted in the conventioal sense. Despite this she brought the damaged vessel back to the Galactica.
