Known Space

The Known Space is a series of loosely connected novels and short stories, written by Larry Niven (with the exception of the Man-Kzin Wars series, more about it later).

It spans more than 8 centuries, and includes at least a dozen alien races. Most stories are set in Known Space (another word for 'explored space'), a sphere approximately 60 light-years in diameter (it includes Earth as well). Some stories, however, are set in farther places, such as the Ringworld series which is set 200 light-years away from Known Space, and At the Core, where a ship travels almost to the galactic core and back.

Of the most notable races in Known Space are the agressive warrior race of the Kzinti, the cowardly but influential race of Puppeteers, the nomadic, secretive Outsiders, and many more.
