Universe: Known Space

Kzinti Patriarchy

The Kzinti (singular - Kzin) are a race of large felinoids (cat-like aliens). They are very agressive, and often attack with little or no provocation. Only the Kzinti males are sentient - their female counterparts, who were as sentient as males in very ancient historical times, have been bred to eventually become little more than mating animals.

The Kzinti have fought no less than 6 separate wars with man kind, and lost them all.

Physically, an adult Kzin is around 8 feet (240 cm) tall, and weight 200 kg. Like terrestrial cats, the Kzinti have sharp retractable claws, and orange fur. There are several features that distinguish them from terrestrial cats though, such as their naked, pink, ratlike tail, their fan-shaped, foldable ears, and the unusual shape of their skeleton.

The orange fur of the Kzinti bears some black spots and stripes, the scheme and location of which varies between individuals, making them easier to recognize.

The Kzin Empire, often called the Kzin Patriarchy, is led by the Patriarch, who is the absolute monarchial ruler of the Kzinti people. Formerly, the warlike Kzinti Empire encompassed a huge area, significantly larger than the entirety of currently known space, and have enslaved many other alien races. All conquest and expansion was conducted via slower-then-light ships, equipped with thrusters - inertialess and reactionless drives capable of achieving acceleration in the hundreds of Earth gravities, and thus capable of achieving near lightspeed velocity very quickly.

The Kzinti Patriarchy lost most of its territory and practically all its slave-races after its defeats by the hands of the Human race. Their current territory is only slightly larger than the Human sphere of influence.
