Lafiel Abriel
Universe: Crest of the Stars
Rank/title: Rowas

Rowas Lafiel Abriel

Name: Abriel Nei Dobrusk Paryunu Lafiel
Sex: Female
Race: Abh
Age: Unknown. Presumably young due to her rank of Pilot Trainee at the start.

Personality: Lafiel has an aggressive disposition. She can also get haughty at times. She has an extremely strong sense of duty, even to those she hates or when that sense of duty requires her to abandon those she loves. An example of the first is when she is paying honor to Baron Febdash's memory despite his attempt to kill her and her human love, Jinto. An example of the second is when she places protecting the civilians over protecting Jinto because Jinto is military while the civilians are non-combatants. Lafiel is very compassionate and on multiple occasions has helped people even when it inconveniences her. She can also be somewhat guilable about the little things in life. When she was a child she actually believed her father when he said that she was a combination of his DNA and the DNA of her cat. Even as an adult she sometimes falls for little jokes such as a comment Jinto once made about her scent. Overall, though, she's a very intelligent and extremely capable individual despite occasional doubts about her abilities.

History: Lafiel was born the daughter of Bomowase Salel Lexshue and Laslu Kyuv Dobyusu of the Clyuve family. She is the grandaughter of the Empress of the Abh through the Clyuve family. She was conceived through sexual intercourse; this has special meaning for the Abh as generally they grow their children artificially through combining the DNA of the desired individuals. They call this event a Birth Secret.

Like most Abh nobility, Lafiel joined the military to serve the requisite 10 years of service. This is required by all Abh nobility. Her actions before meeting Jinto are unknown at this time. At the start of the series Lafiel is sent to pick up Jinto Lin, a human who has become Abh nobility because his father surrendered his world to the Abh in return for the rank. At this time her rank is Pilot Trainee.

On the flight to the vessel known as the Gosroth, Jinto quickly endears himself to Lafiel by reacting normally to her rather than treating her like nobility. He does this on accident - not realizing she's the grandaughter of the Empress - but because so many people keep their distance from her she's instantly cheered. Very shortly after arrival on the Gosroth, the ship comes under attack by ten assault ships from United Mankind, one of four other empires who have allied to oppose the Abh. Captain Lexshue orders Lafiel to take Jinto, who is a noncombatant, and warn the Empire about the fact that United Mankind is apparently moving against them. Abriel believes that Lexshue is using this chance to evacuate her daughter from the ship, which is about to engage in a battle that they strongly believe they can't win. While this is a bonus from Lexshue's perspective, it doesn't change the truth that Lafiel is the only crewmember who doesn't have a critical position on the ship, and the fact that she does indeed have to place Jinto's safety first according to Abh beliefs about noncombatants. After a brief argument, Lafiel gives in and she and Jinto head to the Febdash Barony, where they can refuel their shuttle before heading to Sufugnof which will be where war begins.

After arriving at Febdash, Lafiel finds herself treated like royalty by scantily clad girls. She quickly loses track of Jinto who has been locked up by Baron Febdash. Acting quickly, she acquires the assistance of some of Febdash's staff who are attracted to a combination of Lafiel's higher rank, kinder personality, and promise to make them part of her staff rather than the barons. By the time she is finished, the baron is dead and Jinto and the baron's father are free. It turns out the baron while physically Abh had a human parent and he despised his human ancestry. Lafiel and Jinto then continue on to Safugnof.

Arriving at Sufugnof they find that the planet is already under United Mankind assault and mostly under United Mankind's control, with just a few groups holding out. Lafiel is forced to crash land on the planet Casbul and she and Jinto go into hiding. Whereas in space she was in charge, now that she is on a planet Jinto takes the lead as like most Abh, Lafiel is extremely unfamiliar with the life of landers(what the Abh call people who live on planets). On the planet she fights alongside Jinto and some rebels against the military police of United Mankind, along with some regular police that are supporting them somewhat reluctantly. Her combat skills prove vital in some of these fights, until finally she and Jinto escape by being launched into space in a coffin.

Three years later Lafiel earns the rank of Rowas and command of the assault ship Basroil. Jinto has just graduated from training as a supply officer and Lafiel acquires him for her crew. Lafiel participates in a battle simulation and does rather poorly. Thanks to crew of the Basroil and especially Jinto she cheers up, being reminded that while she did poorly she still didn't do bad for being a new captain going up against one of the Empire's most experienced tacticians.

Lafiel then finds her ship assigned under the command of Hecto-Commander Atosuryua. This concerns Lafiel as Atosuryua is the younger sister of Baron Febdash. Lafiel participates in her first fleet engagement. The battle is won by the Abh. Shortly after this battle Lafiel finds that Atosuryua doesn't hold a grudge but still wants to honor her brother's memory over a dinner with the few people who knew him, even if on bad terms. Lafiel and Jinto join her and find she's a very different person from her brother and indeed, barely knew him.

The next battle takes place at the Aptic Gate. The Abh underestimate United Mankind and Lafiel and the rest are forced to retreat in preperation for a counter attack. In another battle that follows shortly after, the Basroil is destroyed. Jinto gets trapped and Lafiel risks her life to save him. She and Jinto board an escape pod and make it out alive. The overall battle is won by the Abh, however, and Lafiel finds herself serving as temporary military governer over the Aptic system. A month later she's relieved of the duty and given a new assault ship which is named Basroil as well.

Before going out to battle again, she returns home for a short time and drops off her cat. It is revealed that she has a brother here who is somewhat jealous of her achievements. She has advanced farther and faster than he has. It is also revealed that her father is a kind-hearted man who explains that her brother shouldn't try to be like her, and that the two of them are very different. Also, her father has been called to join the war as well.

Lafiel is then sent to Lobnas II where she is placed in charge as military governor. She then finds out that Lobnas II was a United Mankind prison planet which has four competing factions representing the three prison sectors and the prison administrator. Lafiel, going by Abh laws, decides that United Mankind laws don't apply to the prisoners of Lobnas II. They all get a clean slate but are also told that any crimes commited under Abh law will be met with swift and deadly justice. The women's sector and prison administrators choose to relocate elsewhere in Abh territory. The other two sectors revolt against the Abh exactly as United Mankind launches a counter attack. Lafiel, to protect her people is forced to leave Jinto behind. By this point neither one of them denies the love they feel for each other.

To protect the prisoners and administrators who are fleeing the planet in the face of the incoming United Mankind forces, Lafiel convinces Admiral Spoor to sacrifice a large portion of her fleet in a dangerous gamble to delay United Mankind. Admiral Spoor does as Lafiel requests and indeed suffers heavy losses but in return Lafiel saves the transports and people on board.

Lafiel returns as governor of the Lobnas system after the Abh reconquer it, desperately looking for Jinto. She finds him, they hug while she cries over him. His comment to her is 'I thought Abriel's don't cry.'
