Langston Field

The Langston Field is an energy absorbing shield. It was first mentioned in The Mote in God's Eye and the World War series. However the shield is not mentioned in the Falkenburg's Legions series, so it can be assumed that the Field was not developed during those times.

The Langston Field appears to be black, since it absorbs kinetic and electromgentic energy. It is very efficent and can absorb powerful nulcear and laser blast. Cities can also be protected with Langston Fields.

As the Field asborbs energy, it begins to glow and change colors from black to red to purple. If the field overloads, it instantly releases all the accumuated energy inwards and outwards. This would destroy anything inside the Langston Field. There can be also local burn outs in the field, in which a small section of the field overlads and releases energy. In those cases, the ship would only be damaged, not destroyed.
The Langston field always has a circular shape.
