Liberator

The Liberator was an advanced spacecraft of alien design encountered by the Terran Federation Prison Transport 'London', while transporting convicts, including Roj Blake, Jenna, and Avon to Cygnus Alpha.

The Liberator had been found adrift in space, apparently disabled. The crew of the London had observed what appeared to be a space battle on the extreme range of their sensors. Crew members were sent over to commandeer the ship but mysteriously died.

The Captain sent over a party of convicts who managed to overcome the ships intruder detection system and commandeer the vessel.

Of a highly advanced design, the Liberator was able to stand up to the firepower of most Federation Pursuit ships singly, although a massed attack could overcome the defences. To that end, the Federation sent out hunting packs of Pursuit ships with orders to either capture or destroy the Liberator.
