Lightsaber

Lightsabers are the preferred weapons of Force-users such as the Jedi and Sith. When wielded by such individuals, they are capable of deflecting blaster bolts and cutting through swaths of enemies.

There are at least half a dozen theories as to the nature of lightsabers, but none can fully and accurately describe just what these devices are. It is known that the weapons can cut through nearly all materials (and many force fields), emit light, hum, are opaque (as they cast a shadow), and of course block plasma bolts from blasters. They also contain some sort of crystal (or crystals), but their exact function is uncertain. It is it known that the blade's color is determined by the type of crystal, and that different varieties of crystal offer different levels of power, beam widths, and a variety of more specialized effects ranging from energy pulses to ion bursts to superior damage against wielders of the Dark Side of the Force.

Lightsabers are versatile weapons. Their blades can be shortened and lengthened as needed, and their intensity can be altered as well, ranging from full-power slicing mode to a harmless 'lightshow' incapable of doing damage. A number of styles exist, including the standard sword-like model, curved-handle models which allow for more elaborate moves, and double-bladed types which can be used like a quarterstaff.
