Mega City Judges

The Judges are the law enforcement agency in the Mega Cities. In the Judge Dredd universe we primarily see the Judges of Mega City One, although we do see Judges from around the world, this entry will deal with the Judges of the North American Mega-Cities, and Mega-City One in particular.

The Judges usurped the authority of the last President of the United States when his foolish decisions led to a nuclear war that laid much of the Continental United States to waste. The Judges dispense justice apparently without any sort of bias, though as time goes on, it is apparent that despite their best efforts, the Judges are just as fallible as anyone else.

The Judges are split into various departments. You have the Street Judges who are the normal patrollers. Tech Judges oversee the Research and Development of new equipment. The SJS, or Special Judicial Squad is one of the most feared departments. They serve as a sort of Internal Affairs. Psi Judges are one of the rarest and are made up of Judges who have a Psi ability.

Judges enter the Academy of Law in one of two ways. Either they are from clone stock, like Judge Dredd who is taken from Cloned DNA of Judge Fargo, or children enter the Academy at the age of five, like the late, elder Judge Giant.
