Mercenaries

Mercenary companies are present everywhere in the Inner Sphere. They range from small companies consisting of a few mechs and vehicles to larger organisations like Wolf's Dragoons, the Kell Hounds, the Northwind Highlanders and the Gray Death Legion among others.

Mercenaries are primarily thought of as soldiers for hire, only interested in the money and nothing else. This is a bit of an unfair viewpoint. Yes, the Mercs need money, but to keep a company active means high overheads. The staff required to keep Battlemechs operational is a considerable cost, as are ordnance resupplies, jumpship and dropship costs and so on.

Some Mercenary companies own their own dropships, the really well off ones might own a jumpship or keep one or two on a retainer contract, but this is rare. Sometimes transport is laid on by the client but this can't alway be depended on.
