Mothership

The Visitor mothership is an awesome sight and represents a significant power projection capability for the visitors.

Fully three miles across, the crew numbers several thousand. It is said initially in the first contact with earth that the Gravity Drive is extremely efficient but takes up two thirds of the vessels internal space. In light of later revelations, with the huge water tanks and cryogenic freezing facilities involved in their real mission, it's unknown whether Diana's statement was false, covering these areas, but it seems likely.

The Mothership has numerous launch bays, around 24, each capable of handling around 3 dozen shuttlecraft ranging from Skyfighters up to full sized troop transports and tankers.

There appears to be no, or very few weapons on the mothership itself which is a puzzling omission, but this could be explained away in a number of ways. Maybe having no visible weapons meant that Earth would be lulled into believing them, or maybe there are weapons but they are suitable only for massive overkill attacks.

Crew quarters seem to vary, a technician or low ranking shock trooper will have a fairly small personal space with just enough space to sleep in, and be able to attend to various other necessary tasks. The quarters are comfortable but spartan. Obviously officers quarters, especially those of Diana, Stephen, and higher will be a lot more sumptous.

The motherships can also be set to self destruct, destroying an enemy to devastating effect by overloading the internal reactors.
