Mynock
Mynocks are strange, vaguely bat-like creatures with a wingspan of about two meters. They typically live in thin atmospheres, and can survive in a hard vacuum for prolonged periods. They have a sucker-like mouth fringed with small fleshy protrusions and two black eyes.
Mynocks are notorious for dwelling around space stations and shipyards, where they use their sucker-mouth to latch onto ships. They are capable of absorbing electrical and electromagnetic energy and using it for their own metabolic purposes. As they are silicon-based lifeforms, they presumably must also ingest silicon as a nutrient so that they can grow and sustain themselves. Living in flocks, mynocks can pose a serious nuisance, and even a real threat, to shipyards and other facilities that produce energies which might attract them. This is a real concern given the fact that mynocks can hitch rides on starships and have thus spread around the galaxy.
The vynock is a cousin of the mynock which lives in more conventional atmospheric settings. Whether the vynock is an ancestral species which evolved into the space-going mynock, or is a subspecies of mynock adapted to living in a particular planet's atmosphere, is unknown. Vynocks are like mynocks in all other respects.
