Nebulon B Class Frigate

Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards after the battle of Yavin, the Nebulon B class frigate was intended to provide a counter to the threat of Rebel starfighters to Imperial transport convoys, which had been one of the main sources of supplies and materiel for the Rebel Alliance.

An unusual and highly distinctive design, the Nebulon B was designed specifically for the Empire, but a number of these vessels found their way into Alliance service. One of these ships served as the main medical ship for the Rebel Fleet. Others were refitted as recon ships or strike carriers.

The Nebulon B can also carry a complement of fighters. While not a true heavy combatant, the vessels are considered some of the most heavily armed for their size.

In Imperial service, they served as escort vessels for convoys or in other tasks that did not justify the expense and time of deploying a Star Destroyer. They also served in task forces, supplementing other vessels.
