Nephilim

The Nephilim are a sentient bug-like race that first appeared in known space in the year 2681. They appear to be hive-based with lower intelligence warriors being led by war lords and the 'mother creature' which is supsected to be a hive queen. They use organic technology, with their ships consisting of crystalline compounds.
Rather than using advanced tactics they are used to smash opposing forces with their superior numbers, making it easy to deal with a lone fighter as their smaller ships don't pose a real threat in low numbers.
First they entered near space through a wormhole located in the Kilrah system, which was closed down by a strike force of the TCS Midway.
Another incursion was repelled shortly afterwards as the Nephilim set up a stellar aggregation device of unknown purpose in Proxima Centauri. How they arrived in terran space the second time is currently unknown.
