Nova Class Dreadnought

A precursor to the Omega Class Destroyer which uses a similiar hull form, the Nova Class Dreadnought is an impressive vessel which is slowly being phased out of service.

It isn't known exactly when the class entered service, but it is thought that it took part in the Dilgar War; a Nova was also part of the taskforce that made disastrous first contact with the Minbari.

In appearance, the Nova is similiar to theOmega but lacks the Omega's distinctive rotating section, giving it an overall 'cleaner' look; the downside of this is that there is no artificial gravity and crewmembers at their stations invariably have to be belted in.

Like many of the larger capital ships in the Babylon 5 universe, the Nova is capable of opening its own jump points.

The Nova's armament consists of 18 dual plasma cannon mounts, which with their positioning give good overlapping fields of fire. However, such power comes at a price, and the weapons systems drain so much power that the vessel must remain stationary while firing. This is obviously suicidal on its own, but if the Nova operates in conjunction with other vessels such as the Hyperion or Omega classes, it can deal a lethal blow to most enemies.

The Nova also has a full squadron of Starfury fighters in its frontal bay, but it is likely that, given the age of the class, they would not be able to accomodate the later Thunderbolt class.
