Observers

The Observers are a race of highly evolved beings with nearly omnipotent mental powers. They are so advanced, in fact, that they must carry their brains in glass dishes instead of in their heads. Their 'bodies' are not their real bodies - they are manifestations used to carry their brains around. In fact, each individual Observer is just a single facet of a vast, omniscient 'neural net' - a huge collective consciousness.

The focus of Observer society is to observe and record the universe's various phenomena. They are elitist, being arrogant and very condescending of lower beings, but they have a policy of non-interference - for the most part.

Despite being all-knowing, all-seeing, and capable of manipulating matter and energy with their minds, the Observers were unable to prevent the destruction of their homeworld when Mike Nelson requested the aid of the Nanites in escaping from the planet's orbit. The Nanites detonated the planet, leaving one Observer (more often called 'Brain Guy) to join forces with Pearl Forrester as she pursued Nelson and his robotic cohorts across space and time.

Eventually, two Observers tracked Brain Guy back to Earth, the former being disgusted that the latter had degenerated into a snack-food-eating, broadcast-television-watching entity. Apparently, at least some Observers had survived the obliteration of their world and were attempting to put it back together. However, these two Observers were bested by Brain Guy in brain-to-brain combat and turned into Packer fans.
