Ori
The Ori are an old species who were once a united race with the Ancients who were once known as the Alterans.
HISTORYAfter the discovery of Ascension, the race splintered into two groups. One would become the Ori who took a more religious attitude towards Ascension. They would become the masters of their home galaxy once the Alterans left on their long exodus.
The Ori would eventually ascend after which they would recreate the Second Evolution of their form, Humans and spread them across the galaxy. They taught these Humans that the Ori were their Creators and thus their Gods. They created a religion known as Origin with the Priors of the Ori serving as their emissaries. Originally, the Ori would have the best of intentions but later discovered that those beings who freely gave their will to the Ori gave off a form of energy that empowered Ascended beings. This served as a source of additional power to the Ori. They would also, according to Orlin, not ascend their followers despite promises to do so as they do not wish to share their power.
The Ori remained as the dominant masters of their galaxy until, millions of years later, they discovered Human travellers from the Milky Way galaxy in the form of Dr Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran. The Ori became aware that their enemies, the Alterans who the Milky Way people knew as the Ancients, had created their own Second Evolution. Outraged, the Ori started a Crusade with the purpose of converting or destroying the people of the Milky Way galaxy. This started in the form of sending Priors of the Ori through the Stargate to the Milky Way while the Ori instructed their followers to create great starships and the training of an army.
One of their attempts at gaining a foothold in the galaxy failed when the developing Supergate was destroyed but this did not stop the Ori as entire worlds began to adopt the teachings preached in the Book of Origin. They nearly succeeded in converting the Free Jaffa Nation to Origin through Gerak but this to also failed. however, the Ori managed to construct a new Supergate which activated and sent forth four powerful Ori waships which devastated a fleet of Jaffa, Tok'ra, Tau'ri and Asgard ships sent to stop them. The Ori would then begin using their warships to quicken the conversion of the galaxy. This time also saw the birth of the Orici; a genetically engineered Ori in Human form born from Vala Mal Doran to serve as the leader of the Ori Crusade. The Humans of Stargate Command managed to block the Supergate which prevented more Ori reinforcements from arriving into the galaxy but this did not stop the devastation and conversions made by the four lone ships which managed to conquer the Free Jaffa homeworld of Dakara.
The Orici quickly grew to maturity and led the conversion of several worlds while attempts were made to stop the Humans of Earth from finding the Sangraal, a weapon capable of destroying Ascended beings. The weapon would eventually be used against the Ori by being sent through the Supergate and the fate of the Ori themselves is unknown. However, that one lone act of sending the device through the Supergate allowed more Ori ships to have access to the Milky Way galaxy and despite the possible death of their masters; the Ori's Crusade continues. The Orici herself would also be gravely wounded and would Ascend. Should the Ori be dead then the Orici will continue their will to destroy their enemies.
SOCIETYThe Ori themselves manifest as a wall of fire within the City of the Gods in the Plains of Celestis where they interact through the Doci; the chief priest of the Ori. They also created the Orici named Adria who possessed Ori knowledge to convert the galaxy. This is mainly because the energy generated by followers makes the Ori stronger and will give them enough energy to destroy the Ascended Ancients.
The Orici, Priors and the Doci are all genetically enhanced Humans with powerful telepathic, telekinetic and other mental abilities making them far superior to ordinary Humans. They are capable of bringing people back from the dead or turning Humans into undead monsters.
Beneath this tier in their society exist the ordinary Humans who are faithful to the teachings of the Ori. Those who are not are killed for being unbelievers. Each household possesses a Book of Origin which has parables and stories that are meant to inspire faith and hope though some of these teachings are known to be distorted to suit the Ori's ruthless crusade.
