Paranoia

The Computer is Your Friend!

Paranoia is a table-top RPG.

In a vast underground warren in the future a well meaning but insane computer system watches over it's human subjects. It has ordered and perfected human society so that Alpha Complex (the warren) is a utopia. How do we know it's a utopia? Because the computer says so!

All human subjects are grown in clone vats in batches of six and then assigned a colour code which largely determines their status and freedoms and amount of information they have access to. The coding follows the visible spectrum from Red (low) to Violet (high) and includes Infrared (black) and Ultraviolet (white).

Despite being a utopia and perfect society many question this and so Alpha Complex and the Computer have many enemies. Disaffected citizens form cabals of secret societies to overthrow or control Alpha Complex. Deadly mutants seek to use their powers to control society and the dreaded Communists may invade at any time.

It does not matter that most threats to Alpha Complex/The Computer exist only in TCs processors. These enemies must be eliminated! The Armed Forces and Vulture Squadrons seek out visible enemies and the Troubleshooters seek out the hidden dangers.

The heroes are the Troubleshooters. They are to seek out trouble and well, shoot it. They are always members of one secret society or another (which have their own agendas) and all are mutants with a secret power that will get them shot if discovered.

The Computer is insane, the missions deadly and impossiable and knowing the rules will get your character killed. But fear not, if you should die in service to the Computer, you will be replaced with your clone.
